Christian de la Croix was desparate to save the life of his unborn son which makes for a dramatic opening in this fantastic medieval tale. I am a fairly new fan of medieval romance but if I had not been....this awesome debut book would have clenched it for me. If you have not yet read it do yourself a favor and get a copy soon and fall in love with this hero!!

5 stars. PHENOMENAL !!! By A Customer This is a *commanding* novel from a hot author. Her vivid description of the time is beyond incredible, and the steamy romance is enough to keep my thoughts out of order for a week... I simply cannot wait until the sequel comes out next fall!

Great, took me back to why I fell in love with reading

My love of reading started with medieval romances, so any time I get a chance to read one, I jump at it. And this story was a pleasure to read. I loved the main characters. Neither was perfect and made bad decisions, but they also owned up to them and at the end, it all worked out. Yes, I am one of those. I love happy endings and any book without one is going to rate less than 5 stars for me.

Clarisse is one of those women that I really enjoy reading about. She's brave, a little reckless, but intuitive which means she doesn't always assume that what is stated as fact, is in fact, true. Although she has heard the rumors about the Slayer, and thought them to be true since she didn't know otherwise, she didn't automatically condemn him as an evil man. And after she met him, she became less sure that those rumors were all correct. That didn't mean she trusted him with her secrets, but she knew she could not harm him, but that left her with little recourse but to hope that her betroth would help her save her family.

Christian, better known as the slayer, has made mistakes. And as a result of some of those mistakes and in some cases, unplanned deaths, he is feared by most everyone. His own staff and the people he is meant to protect think he is the devil. When his wife dies during childbirth, his reputation is further cemented as a man who slays everyone around him. Desperate for a nursemaid for his son, Simon, he hires Clarisse to care for him, but under threat of death if his son should die. Not the best way to show her he is not everything that everyone believes he is, but aside from his son and second in command, he has no one else.

Their is distrust on both sides, but they need each other too. So although neither has reason to trust the other, they learn to while also falling in love. The pace was great. There were a few times when I groaned at the continued lies or ultimatums, but I was fully engaged in their story. The story is not unique, but was fun to read and very well written. If you love medieval romances, then this is a great book to try. There is violence and sex, but nothing extreme. I would definitely recommend it to anyone over 14.

WOW! I adore Ms. Melton's Romantic Suspense, but gotta say, this Medeival adventure is FANTASTIC!!
Fast paced, thrill ride of emotions with engaging, energetic and charismatic characters. The storyline is unique, well written, intriguing and very, very interesting. Filled with betrayal, secrets, suspense, redemption, forgiveness, healing, mystery, romance, passion and deception. I absolutely adored the heroine and the hero in this story. While the hero is nicknamed, "Slayer",Christian de la Croix(Simon), is so much more. The, heroine, "Clare", Clarisse du Boise, is made to be a part of a deception in order to save her family, that could possibly result in either her death and her family's peril or find Clare and Simon the love of a lifetime.
A complex, compelling and powerful story! Ms. Melton has once again written a tale, where the reader with find themselves entrenched and held spellbound to the pages of this story and it's characters. You can feel their pain, their frustrations and their love. The emotional turmoil just flows off the pages.
A page turning tale from the first page to the last page! I absolutely loved "The Slayer's Redemption". I can hardly wait for the next installment of the "Warriors of York". A must read! Fans of Medieval Historical Romance, England, Suspense, a bit mystery, lots of deception, passion and romance will love this tale. A fantastic read!! Highly recommended!!

Outstanding! A must read for Medieval romance readers

Marliss Melton know for her Navy Seals and Echo Platoon series has show us that she can also write outstanding medieval romantic suspense. The best romances always have us hoping for a happy ever after even if there may seem to be no possible way. In the Slayers Redemption we have intrigue, deception, battles & betrayal that keep us turning the pages all the while hoping Christian & Clare can survive and have a life together. If you enjoy medieval romance and suspense this is a book you don't want to miss.

Bait and Hook Title?

I am not the type of guy to give one two star ratings at all for books (i generally would do that for hardware) but i must give this book a low score. I am highly disappointed in the book considering i waited months and months for the release of the book. What i was looking for at the very least was a book that took a sample user story or business case and worked it from beginning to end (hence design to deployment), Along the way i expected to explanations as well as tips and tricks for implementing features. Based on the title i was really looking for a line of business (LOB) application with a WPF desktop app and mobile clients. nothing of the sort. This is a basic book not suitable for intermediate or advanced devs. The brief look at MVVM was also even disappointing hence when it talks about design i was looking for much more. Jesse Liberty's book Pro XAML does a better job of covering Windows 8.1 mobile Win Store development. I do appreciate the author's time and effort but this book needs a revision or title change, something that indicates a brief introduction not an in depth look.

Not About XAML!

This book is *NOT* about XAML. It has almost no XAML information, instead devoting to unit testing, program design, and other irrelevant topics. You would be much better off with MacDonald's book on WPF or Hall's book on Pro WPF and Silverlight MVVM. Either book has more about XAML in the first chapter than this does in the entire book.

Demonstrates Best Practices, not introductory tutorial.

This book should not be your first book for using XAML with C#. It is definitely not a step by step tutorial either.
What it aims for is to give you best practices for using XAML with C#. It explains how to properly set up MVVM, and why to not use "Code-Behind".

Look at the table of contents. It covers more intermediate and advanced concepts.
Because it is a concise book covering best practices that are hard to find elsewhere, it has earned 5 stars.

If you are looking for your first book on XAML with C#, please purchase this book later.

All this talk of disease...

For everyone who is interested in this book, let it first be said that I think many people interested and involved in the deaf community would find it appaling that deafness is being treated as a "sin" or and "error" in humans. While not all people may agree with me on this point, I think it is very important to watch your comments when referring to these books. While Van Cleve uses historical analysis in his work, it fails to account for any positive deaf cultured view of the situation. Those involved in this culture will tell you that deafness is not a disease or a problem, but part of a human being, and Van Cleve fails to recognize this point, and therefore fails in any attempt to empower the Deaf Community. Whether or not this was his attempt is not as important. We all must be aware of the fact that some people are happy how they are. They dont want their deafness "treated" or "cured" becuase it can't be - it is as much a part of them as your eye color.

As a student of American Sign Language and the Deaf community I have read many books on the subject. A Place of Their Own: Creating the Deaf Comminity in America is an excellent book in which to find details that you just don't find in many other places. It covers Deaf history, the people and places that influenced the Deaf community and the reasons for the importance of the Deaf community. This isn't a book that promotes or promises a "Utopian Deafland" it gives a realistic look at the the lives of Deaf people throughout history. As a textbook, this is an excellent learning tool for anyone. It belongs in the home of every Deaf person, every person with a Deaf family member and the home of every person that knows anyone who is Deaf. It would be a nice thing for any hearing person that doesn't know any Deaf people to help create an understanting of a community they are not likely familiar with. An excellent and easy read. I highly recommend it.

Excellent book on the cultural/social history of the deaf

For a long time I have been searching for such book like this! It is excellent resources for the people, who are interested to learn American Sign Language, to become aware of richly deaf cultural/social history. The authors know where to find such wealthy of information, yet their writings are brevity along with several examples of where the deaf people have been interacted in order to preserve their cultural-linguistic connections. I highly recommended this book to the education and medical personnel to see how the deaf people are evidently happy with their livings without being heavily corrected on their hearing loss.

Hot little quickie

The story was very hot! The plot developed fairly quickly and the book was too short in my opinion. Just as I was whetting my appetite the book ended, bummer. I could taste Brad and wanted so much more, the book kinda felt like a hot little quickie. Overall nice read but way too short.

About the Author

Wendell H. Oswalt is Emeritus Professor of Anthropology at University of California, Los Angeles, where he taught for thirty-two years. His research has examined Native American cultures, with particular attention devoted to the Yupik-speaking Eskimos in southwestern Alaska and Inuit-speaking Eskimos in northern Alaska and Canada.

Great Place to Start

I had to use this book for an anthropology course in college and I didn't even think about selling it back. This is much more of an anthropology book - a study of Native American Culture - than it is a history. Don't get me wrong, there is plenty of history in here, ranging from the earliest encounters with Europeans to present day political and archaeological studies; but it's primarily concerned with the cultures of the indigenous peoples of North America. When I say North America I mean from Northern Mexico to the Arctic Circle. Don't buy this book if you're looking for information on the Mayans or Mexica (Aztec).

The author breaks the book down into sections based off of loose cultural/geographic divisions, ie Southeast, Subarctic, Northwest Coast, etc. Within those sections you will find information on tribal structure, family structure (were they patrilineal, matrilineal, etc?) and lots of other information. There's a chapter devoted specifically to white/indian contact, and another general chapter for general information outside of the specific peoples. This helps to bring the whole book together. Highly recommended.

Anyone with an interest in Native Americans (American Indians, First Nations) should begin by reading Oswalt and Neely. This Land Was Theirs is both informative and inspirational.

This book is detailed and was a great textbook. I'm glad it was required reading in my anthropology class. The chapters explained the different ways of life for different tribes and made sure to include all aspects of their lives, from birth to death.

About the Author

Thuan L. Thai started computer programming 15 years ago but has never been tired with this hobby--one that he truly considers an art. He is currently a senior systems engineer at SAIC where he has led the architecture and development of several successful distributed and COM-based imaging systems. He also teaches Win32, MFC, and COM programming courses for Learning Tree International. Prior to all this, Thuan worked for AMS where he developed multi-tiered, object frameworks using C++ and RPC. He received his bachelor of science in computer science from the University of Virginia.When not developing software, Thuan enjoys strumming his six strings and writing songs every now and then. He often plays 9-ball with the same buddies with whom he has played the game for over eight years. Thuan hopes to play more tennis, the only sport that he has ever played for more than eight hours in a single day.

Excellent little .NET introduction

This book delivers exactly what it promises - an excellent overview of essential .NET Framework. Easy to read format, good chapters on IL,Framework,COM+ Interop. Unfortunately very little or no .NET serialization, memory management or threading. But a lot of information for the size of this book. Gives excellent foundation to learn upon.

A Great Introduction, but too detailed for many readers

As anyone knows, the .NET framework is being touted as not only the next big thing but the merging of several technologies to create the web based revolution. Maybe it is. Maybe it isn't. I came into this book looking for a good overview of what .NET meant to me and what potential did it hold. I got that to some extent but had to really work for it.
The book is very good at giving information on the new framework. The problem is that I, and I am willing to bet many other readers, were looking for an authorative view of what .NET means and can do, rather than how it does it. It's as if I wanted to find out about the new class of car and what its features are and what it can do. Instead I am handed a concise mechanics manual that tries to explain the highlights of how things work under the hood.
I learned a lot, but I think I took away more from this book because I read some other materials first. Had I simply dived into this book, I would have been lost. This is not an "introdutory" book for most of us. For coders and developers, yes this will be helpful and essential - for them this is a very powerful book. For the "rest" of us - it's very informative if you are willing to wade through the details. Find something specific about .net you want to learn about, read up on that and THEN come to this book and get the details in order to build a full understanding of the technology.

.NET Framework Essentials (3rd ED)

As the title says, this book gives the essentials of the .NET framework. It is not an exhaustive treatment, rather, it touches on the main features of .NET. The book assumes that the reader is fluent in object-oriented and component-based programming. Overall, the book was fairly well written with the main features of the .NET framework being clearly explained. The book has no distractive "fluff" in it, so one can easily dive into learning about .NET. The authors give an overview of .NET, and then present a description of the common language runtime (CLR). The common programming model and working with .NET components follow. XML data and web services are clearly explained with a lot of code snippets being given. The book concludes with chapters on ASP, Windows Forms, and mobile devices. The appendices are useful, as sometime acronyms aren't defined in the main text, but are explained in the appendix.

Overall, I found the book well written. The coverage of topics is actually fairly decent. The authors have done a good job of focusing on the essential aspects of .NET. If you're looking for a book that gives gives an overview of the heart of .NET, this is a good book. If you're looking for an exhaustive reference, than you'll probably want something else.

Life is Choices

Don't quit this book by the end of chapter two, as I was tempted to do because it was very trite and the simplicity of the writing equaled the main character's extreme naivete. But the writing did improve, the characters got a little deeper, and the story developed enough that I did want to finish it. There is even a touch of mystery. This “saga” felt like some chunks were missing (for example, the story of Edward's brother was unfinished) but these characters with their weaknesses made the story quite realistic. And it was a pleasure to read an ebook with so few publishing errors.

Love Lost or LOVE Found?

I wasn't impressed with the writer's style. Overall it is a good story but most recorded episodes seemed unfinished and ended abruptly. This was a distraction for me. I found the characters annoying at times. I am disappointed in what I think could have been a Five Star read if not for the aforementioned comments.
