Although a novella I loved how it had a beginning, middle and an end. Some novellas may just start in on a story and you don't really get all the facts and you feel lost not with this one this one you got everything. You can tell Kam is used to getting what he wants and well his 'Lemon' and him are secretly lusting after each other, Kam sometimes tries to hard to get her to see reason, "Lemona-" I lean in close to her ear, getting an injection of her intoxicating scent. "If you hang out with me after the game, I'll let you do so much more than just look." As this story progresses something happens to Kam and well you see him look at things in a different perspective, and at some points he became like the woman in a relationship, "I get to spend the first period with Laney, then lunch, then I get to enjoy watching her bounce around in little shorts during volleyballl practice." You see that may not seem like much but if you knew Kam then you'd realize it's a huge thing only thinking about one girl. I mean some things never change like him always envisioning his woman naked, "It goes perfect with her little cut-off shorts and converse sneakers. I wonder if one of these days I can persuade her to wear of cowboy boots. Preferably naked." Now I wouldn't mind Marissa writing more books with southern men because I loved Kam.

****Liked it: It didn’t shatter our worlds. Something held us back from that amazing moment of complete obsession, but we definitely liked it a lot. We would recommend it to our friends.

The characters were likable. The hero was believable. I felt like he could have fought for her more at points, but I could tell he still cared for her. I do wish there was more than one chapter from the heroines point of view.

All in all, it is worth the quick read.

Get ready to go back to high school, with the sounds of excitement coming
from the bleachers and cheerleaders shouting out chants of victory.
Kamdyn Ellis quarterback has it all, good looks, ripped body and star of the team.

His reputation on and off the field has the girls falling at his feet all except one, Laney Summers.

Laney is a recent transplant from New York, a city girl adapting to
country life and being called “Sugar” is not want she wants to hear.

Kam is a player known for having a harem of girls down on their knees…
and not to pray!

It’s senior year and he plans to enjoy his single status.
Sweet and delicious novella has Laney tutoring Kam when he is injured.

Football has always been number one in Kam’s life, his dream of playing and scoring big for
Alabama U may now be sidelined and it’s Laney who shows him, there’s more to
life than just football.

Laney is all too familiar with his babe of the day storage room plays and she has no plans
on becoming another name on his scorecard.
Trying to keep Kam a safe distance is not as easy as Laney thought.
Kam turns out to be a nice guy, who slowly seeps under her skin and the tutor/student
relationship turns into more, something hotter, something sweeter and

I won’t be able to look a football field again without thinking of them
and the fifty yard line!
The author tackled the game, drove the story to the end zone and delivered a
touchdown in this novella.
Short and sweet easy read great by the pool or tucked under the sheets.

About the Author
Michael Heatley edited the acclaimed History of Rock partwork (1981-84). He is the author of over 50 music biographies, ranging from Bon Jovi to Rolf Harris, as well as books on sport and TV. He has penned liner notes to more than 100 CD reissues, and written for magazines including Music Week, Billboard, Goldmine, Radio Times and the Mail on Sunday colour supplement. Alan Brown is a former member of the Scottish National Orchestra. He now works as a freelance musician, with several leading UK orchestras, and as a consultant in music and IT. Very small book--5x7 inches--with 200 "pieces" of music. " Pieces " is accurate--this is more like a sampler of music. Example: "Scott Joplin: The Entertainer" in 12 measures. Over-hyped and way over-priced in my opinion. I would not recommend this to anyone.

About the Author
ITALO CALVINO’s superb storytelling gifts earned him international renown and a reputation as “one of the world's best fabulists” (New York Times Book Review). He�is the author of numerous works of fiction, as well as essays, criticism, and literary anthologies. Born in Cuba in 1923, Calvino was raised in Italy, where he lived most of his life. At the time of his death, in Siena in 1985, he was the most translated contemporary Italian writer.

A fantasy of history and the imagination

Do you remember climbing trees, as a child? When I was a child, our neighborhood was full of giant elms that grew into a massive arch that turned our street into a leafy tunnel. I'd climb up on the lower branches, and dream about being brave enough to climb to the very top of the tree.I imagined building tree houses, where my friends I I could camp out high in the trees, our own special places where grownups were not allowed.

Italo Calvino imagines Cosimo, a boy from a family of minor nobles of the late 18th Century who one day takes to the trees in an act of rebellion against his family, vowing never to set foot on the Earth again. He keeps his promise, traveling to foreign lands, falling in love, corresponding with Voltaire and Diderot and other great minds of his day, participating in the intellectual and the revolutionary movements. Cosimo's younger brother narrates the story of how the young baron took to the trees, and what became of him.

Italo Calvino uses his gifts in storytelling and description to create a world in which a preposterous notion becomes commonplace. The most preposterous characters and events can seem ordinary as Calvino describes them. Cosimo's mother, a German woman known as "the Generalessa," spend her time doing embroidery, but not of the sort you'd expect. "The lace and embroidery were usually in the designs of geographical maps; our mother would stretch them over cushions or tapestry and stick in pins and tiny flags, showing the disposition of battles in the Wars of Succession, which she knew by heart..."

There is also Battista, the sister of Cosimo and our narrator, "a kind of stay at home nun," confined to the castle after a questionable encounter with a young noble, who dresses in a nun's wimple and takes her revenge on the family by preparing exquisite yet inedible dishes. Cosimo's uncle (the illegitimate brother of the Duke) dresses in Turkish robes and a fez and busies himself looking after the legal affair of the family and making complex plans for canals and hydraulic systems that will never be built. Next door is a family with whom Cosimo's family has been feuding, and they have a young daughter- but beyond that you'll have to read the book for yourself.

This is Calvino at his best, the teller of fabulous tales and a crafter of exquisite sentences who can catapult the reader far up into the trees, and beyond.

A parable disquised as an intellecual exercise, or is it?

Never underestimate Italo Calvino, for what you think you are reading may turn out to be something else entirely from your original impressions. That is the case with the relatively short novel, The Baron in the Trees. It is true that I found it enchanting in the beginning and several chapters captured that enchantment, but there are sections that seem totally irrelevant to the plot and by the time I finished the book, I realized it really had no plot. It is an intellectual exercise disguised as a parable. Or is it a long parable disguised as an intellectual exercise? It offers an alternative reality based on our historic reality. Calvino takes an illogical premise that a young man decides at age 12 to life the rest of his life in the trees, and then constructs a world of detail around that premise, thus keeping the reader in a state of suspension. The narrator is the younger brother to the Baron who observes and relates to us what he sees, what he interprets, and sometimes the inner motivations of the other characters. It is the love affair between Cosimo, the Baron in the trees, and Viola, his childhood girlfriend and adult lover that is the peak or climax of the story for all energy and action leads to this point and the recedes from their affair. Despite the young narrator observations and interpretations, the Baron remained a mystery for me and I finally came to the conclusion that he is the ultimate outsider, the one who sees all human society and social constructions from a philosophical distance. Yet, it is passion an love for Viola that causes Cosimo to lose the perspective of the outsider and to be bound in his passions and desires. The character of Viola is fascinating for as a child she pits boy against boy and as a woman she pits man against man. Yet Calvino has a fascinating interpretation of why she uses jealous against the man she loves most in her life. Enough said, for this is a critical part of the book I don't want to spoil for other readers. It is a long parable about choosing to be an outsider, to look at the reset of humanity from a distance, and yet to be bound by the human passions that bound all of us. It is a long parable because there is much in human existence to explore. About every five pages Calvino offers a charming and sometimes enchanting comment or observation or description that reveals him to be the master of irony and abstraction. If you are ready for an author to play games with your expectations, read it.

Robert J. Muckle is Professor of Anthropology at Capilano University in North Vancouver, Canada. He is the author of several textbooks, includingIntroducing Archaeology (second edition, 2014) and Indigenous Peoples of North America (2012); writes an online monthly column for Anthropology News; and is actively engaged on Twitter (@bobmuckle) in anthropology and archaeology related discussions.

Laura Tubelle de González is Professor of Anthropology and the faculty Environmental Sustainability Coordinator at San Diego Miramar College in Southern California, United States. She has won several teaching awards and is a past president of the Society for Anthropology in Community Colleges, a section of the American Anthropological Association that focuses on teaching anthropology.

About the Author
Daniel Simon is an internationally acclaimed designer and trailblazing virtual image creator. He worked for hyper car maker Bugatti and collaborated with Formula 1, Puma and Lotus. Simon is author of the best-selling book Cosmic Motors, a collection of spectacular science-fiction vehicles. Since 2008 Simon has worked with famed directors to create vehicles for Hollywood blockbusters such as Tron: Legacy, Captain America, Prometheus, and the upcoming Oblivion. He lectures around the globe at leading design colleges and global corporations, and is a car and motorsport enthusiast.

Simply Inspiring.

From the moment some time during the Summer that I heard of this book's December release, I counted down the days. Having purchased and pored over "Cosmic Motors" many times over, I looked forward to seeing how Daniel Simon would present the story of a time-traveling racer.

I ordered three copies of the Limited Edition, one for a good friend, and one for my boss, who both share the same love for cars, racing and design. I can safely say that we all thoroughly enjoy this book, and I am constantly looking it over, absorbing more and more of the story, design and details with every read. I always make sure I have a sketch pad and pen nearby when I read this book. The presentation, from the red-and-white hard cover, to the high-resolution images and sketches, are really impressive, and I cannot wait for the subsequent releases in this series. I am also hoping for the possibility of this series becoming a feature film. Way to go, Mr. Simon.

I have not enough words to express my admiration for this book and Daniel’s talent and taste. I ordered all three edition, unlimited, limited (two of each) and pitlane.
I've never seen such a beautiful book, full with fantastic car design ideas, improvisation of styles, brilliant presentation technique, graphic design, refined taste, extraordinary renderings and fantastic publication. Thank you to Design Studio Press for publishing such a beautiful book.
What inspires me, that it is just the beginning and will be continuation of the series and Daniel’s creativity.
I wish “The Cosmic Motors”, Daniel’s another extraordinary and fantastic book published by Design Studio Press, could be republished in a same large format 12” x 14” with the slipcase and revised edition included the Oblivion’s ingenious Bubble ship.

Third one will arrive Monday, first two damaged, called after the first one came, stating they need to add fore aft protection as the book slides around in the box and the corners get crushed...........So opened second one today - Same thing!

Book however it brilliant, I am glad I have it (well 3 of them at the moment!) I think i may have wished I had got the $300 one, but thats too much money, maybe it will be discounted............and if the $100 one has shipping issues......

Honestly Researched.

The book reads like a thesis paper. The language is dry but not particularly difficult. However, the information is exciting! The book is also very honest about which information is reliable and tries to dry it's conclusions from multiple sources. Hence four stars...maybe five if you want something factual and don't mind dry.

Another good historical look

I've read other books by this author and as usual his research is there to see. The fact that it's not just a standard "ninja" book that shows you the weapons and such is refreshing, reading about the tools and weapons is great but reading about the history behind these things and the ninja themselves is a real treat.

Highly recommended. This book covers a lot of ground concerning the history of ninjutsu. Not only does it dispel a great deal of misunderstanding, but it also includes a lot of translated material concerning shinobi-densho & makimono (manuals / scrolls) not found anywhere else in English. The author, Antony Cummins did an excellent job at the design and layout in addition to the written format. Fantastic book.

Energy Storage discusses the underlying fundamentals of all the major energy storage methods. These include the storage of energy as heat, in phase transitions and reversible chemical reactions, and in organic fuels and hydrogen, an important energy carrier. The principles involved in the storage of energy in mechanical, electrostatic and magnetic systems are also treated in some detail. Major attention is given to an up-to-date discussion of electrochemical storage systems in a way that does not require prior understanding of electrochemistry. This includes both traditional battery systems and recent developments, with special attention given to the very important, and rapidly evolving, lithium batteries. Energy Storage provides a comprehensive overview of the concepts, principles and practice of energy storage that will be useful to both students and researchers.

Excellent description of energy storage technologies

This book provides an excellent overview of the various methods that can be used for energy storage,
Topics include the storage of heat by use of phase change materials, reversible chemical reactions, and in a variety of organic fuels, not just oil.
A number of ways to store mechanical energy, both as potential energy and as kinetic energy, are described, including the obvious pumped water and flywheels.
Energy storage in the different types of capacitors, magnetic and superconductive systems are also discussed.
There is an unusually broad discussion of the various methods for the production and storage of hydrogen.
More than half of the pages are dedicated to the storage of energy in electrochemical systems. That is where this book stands out from all the rest.
Rather than merely describing the different types of batteries, it teaches the materials science principles that determine the voltages and capacities of electrochemical systems and devices, and their kinetic properties. Topics cover the whole spectrum, from heart pacemaker power sources to the common non-rechargeable alkaline cells, metal hydride cells, lithium-ion batteries, and the flow batteries that will surely play an important role in connecting intermittent sources, such as wind and solar, to the large scale electrical grid.
The discussion of the common lead-acid battery shows, for the first time, why these water-based electrochemical cells can have voltages that are well beyond what would normally cause water to be decomposed into hydrogen and oxygen.
This book is really an outstanding textbook, for topics are discussed in a manner that teaches the important principles involved, rather than being merely descriptive.

Covers an amazingly broad range of energy-storage media

"Energy Storage" by Robert A. Huggins covers an amazingly broad range of energy-storage methods, relevant to storage on many size scales, ranging from small-scale storage--button cells for small items, medium-scale for small tools--to industrial-scale storage for utility applications. The book in very comprehensive, covering energy-storage media from primitive resources like wood to advanced batteries, and describing means of storing energy over many time scales, from seconds to years.

The need for a new look at energy storage is clear, as world population and increasing energy demand strain existing energy resources. An example of the need for alternative energy resources which require large-scale energy storage is the developing field of renewable energy sources: solar and wind energy. These resources will greatly increase in value as their intermittent energy production can be matched to efficient energy storage, thus allowing coupling of production and energy storage with demand, for which time-shifting is often necessary, as the sun does not always shine and the wind does not always blow, especially at times of peak energy demand.

The book emphasizes materials-science aspects of energy storage, and uses aspects of thermodynamics and electrochemistry in its analyses. Advanced students, scientists, and engineers will find this outstanding book highly useful and a valuable resource to have available. I highly recommend it to other readers who share my interest in energy storage.

This book does a decent overall view of the field of renewable energy. Although poorly written in some places it covers all the areas required for a graduate/undergrad class.
