Schizophrenia has become a recognized psychotic disorder in modern day psychology and research has shown that one in 100 people suffer from this disease in some proportion or degree. It is a dreaded disease and comes as a near death blow to those who are diagnosed with this condition. This fear does not necessarily arise from the scary disease it actually is, but various misconceptions, myths, and misunderstanding that surround it. This disorder has been very thoroughly misunderstood and misrepresented. As a result, there is great confusion and stigma attached to it. This stigma, social pressure, and public opinion have made it very difficult to get the disorder diagnosed, treated or managed. Persons suffering from schizophrenia or under a risk of being affected by it are very insecure due to this public opinion. There has been so much talk about this psychotic disorder with little or no knowledge about it, that it has spread a rumor about the hopelessness and incurability of it. This book aims at spreading awareness and information about schizophrenia and act as a guide for those who want to have a better understanding of this horrible condition.

I have quite recently peruse this book. I have understood how little i think about Schizophrenia and how deceptive most data about it is. I knew it as like 'numerous identities' however acknowledged how wrong i was. This book clarifies the neurological systems included in Schizophrenia in a much less difficult path than most medicinal related books do.This book will stand out enough to be noticed rapidly and keep up it all through while instructing you in the meantime.
I wish I had read this book much earlier. The book has detailed information on how to recognize, treat and help our dear ones suffering from this ailment.

A Good Basic Place to Start Learning
By Rebecca of Amazon
In Anthony Wilkenson's book on Schizophrenia he explains that anyone suffering from this mental disorder has difficulty figuring out what is imaginary and what is real. They hear voices which is like another personality talking to them and this is called an auditory hallucination.

People who are affected by this disorder also withdraw from society, can experience mania, can become very paranoid and struggle with things like obesity.

Since 1 in 100 people are schizophrenic this is a book that everyone should read. I felt it was very informative, well researched and written in a way anyone can understand.

I am going to read other books by this author soon. He really seems to know what he is talking about.

Great Book
By Meredith Mendoza
Schizophrenia used to be a foreign term for me. Aside from the fact that it is hard to spell, the idea is also baffling. However, when I come across this book, a new light has been given to the word.

Although it was not intended to help those dealing with it, this Schizophrenia book serves as a quick guide about it. And the myths, I think, are now cleared.

so I was able to find the way easily. You can ride any part of a section
By Rolf Stengl
I rode the entire Lake Michigan Trail using this book for five weeks from May 22 to June 26, 2015.

The author consulted with local bicycle organizations to combine bike paths, quiet back country roads, and connections into a bicycle ride of around 1,300 miles/ 2,100 kms, around Lake Michigan. The terrain varies from urban, to rural, wilderness, and vacation country.

The route is probably around 50% bike paths, and the rest is back roads with little traffic. It is generally flat, with smooth pavement. I found the route to be as bicycle friendly as anything I’ve ridden, and I was enjoying myself immensely, riding through interesting country, away from cars day after day. The route will appeal to riders of various strengths and interests. To see pictures and text describing the ride, search my name rolfstengl on the net.

The book divides the route into 21 sections, each with text, a table with turn by turn directions, and a map from the author’s GPS. The text is cheerful and provides a general introduction to the highlights of each section, as well as clarification of the route where required. The route tables give distance, directions, and information such as availability of food and accommodation. The tables can be used riding in either direction.

The author has collected and organized a huge amount of information. It is accurate and clear, so I was able to find the way easily. You can ride any part of a section, or a portion of the route, as time allows. A few minor errors were obvious and easily avoided while riding.

The maps show the route, towns, campgrounds and some adjoining roads, so that each segment is put into perspective. I supplemented with paper maps for the large cities, although this is not necessary if you’re just riding through. In small towns, the locally available maps were adequate when I chose to explore off route.

The author includes camping and hotel information, as well as whether food and groceries are available. This is crucial for long distance touring, and I found the information helpful.

Hotels are a personal matter, and I often found the “motel strip” in a town for less expensive or more conveniently located accommodation. For example, in St. Joseph the listed hotel was charging $250 per night, and I found two strip motels with plenty of fast food restaurants and a grocery store nearby, just 3 miles down the road and only one mile from the route out of town. The author correctly states that in most places you have lots of choice for accommodation.

I camped when the weather was good and the campground was conveniently located. The author sometimes notes whether the campground is on the route, or the extra distance required, but this is not consistent, so you have to make local inquiries.

The location of grocery stores was important to me as a self supported rider, however the guide only tells you whether there is a store, with no location. For example, coming from the north into Muskegon State Park campground, I passed a fast food concession and then headed down a substantial hill into the campground, with no food until some five miles further on. In Petoskey I stopped right as I came into town, to ask about a grocery store. It turned out I was directly behind the store, and would have been inconvenienced had I rode the extra 4 miles to the campground without stocking up. So the book gives the basics, and I became proactive to supplement with the information I needed.

There are hills, some are steep, and some form rolling hills in a series of maybe six to nine miles. The author is not good at identifying these places, in case you are tired, or face bad weather. Happily, hilly stretches are rare and I recall only four of them.

I flew into Chicago. Cycling through the city, and in and out at either end, was almost entirely on bike paths. I enjoyed my time in Chicago, and ended up sightseeing a total of six days, both with and without the bike.

The Guidebook details a connected series of trails and roads, is clearly organized, and is easy to follow. I enjoyed the route, and had several days in a row thinking that each day was the best so far, only to find the next day just as good. Buy this book and you will have the foundation for an excellent cycling holiday.

When I read that Bob Robinson, author of Bicycling Guide to the Mississippi River Trail, had written another guidebook I didn't hesitate to order it. I found the first guidebook had everything I needed to make it an enjoyable ride. And from what I've ridden so far, the Bicycling Guide to the Lake Michigan Trail is just as good. I agree with what the author says about the route reminding you of cycling on the coast, what with the bluff views and sandy beaches. I look forward to completing the trip around the Great Lake.

By Shane Donahue
I have wanted to bicycle along the Lake Michigan shoreline for several years but I didn’t know where to start on planning a route. But once I bought this guidebook it provided everything I needed, from lodging, camping, bike shops, and points of interest, that I didn’t have to mess with all that research. It made my tour so easy that all I had to do was pedal my bike. I loved the roads and bike trails the book uses. I saw some really beautiful country and the lake just continued to amaze me. I didn’t ride the entire route around the lake this year but I am looking forward to possibly finishing it next year. I highly recommend the route and this guidebook.

Uses new research about the brain to explore how we can transcend our current physical and cultural limitations

• Reveals that transcendence of current modes of existence requires the dynamic interaction of our fourth and fifth brains (intellect and intelligence)

• Explores the idea that Jesus, Lao-tzu, and other great beings in history are models of nature’s possibility and our ability to achieve transcendence

• 17,000 sold in hardcover since April 2002

Why do we seem stuck in a culture of violence and injustice? How is it that we can recognize the transcendent ideal represented by figures such as Jesus, Lao-tzu, and many others who have walked among us and yet not seem to reach the same state?

In The Biology of Transcendence Joseph Chilton Pearce examines the current biological understanding of our neural organization to address how we can go beyond the limitations and constraints of our current capacities of body and mind--how we can transcend. Recent research in the neurosciences and neurocardiology identifies the four neural centers of our brain and indicates that a fifth such center is located in the heart. This research reveals that the evolutionary structure of our brain and its dynamic interactions with our heart are designed by nature to reach beyond our current evolutionary capacities. We are quite literally, made to transcend.

Pearce explores how this “biological imperative” drives our life into ever-greater realms of being--even as the “cultural imperative” of social conformity and behavior counters this genetic heritage, blocks our transcendent capacities, and breeds violence in all its forms. The conflict between religion and spirit is an important part of this struggle. But each of us may overthrow these cultural imperatives to reach “unconflicted behavior,” wherein heart and mind-brain resonate in synchronicity, opening us to levels of possibility beyond the ordinary.

“This is a masterpiece of science and spirit, love over law, and the stunning biological truth of the capacity for transcendence that the universe has placed within us. Here, in brilliant and incisive words, is the foundation for a new mind and a new world.” (Jean Houston, author of A Passion for the Possible and Jump Time)

Riveting, insightful, and penetrating, Pearce has laid out one of the most startling and powerful visions of our future. . . . "I've spent over thirty years pioneering wellness programs, always trying to grasp why it is such a struggle for people to attain and maintain the well-being that is their birthright. In the last decade I finally came to appreciate what Pearce discovered long ago: that the heart and key to wellness lies in how we nurture our young--enabling them to thrive, rather than merely survive." (John W. Travis, M.D., M.P.H., author of Simply Well and Wellness Workbook)

"Joseph Chilton Pearce has profoundly altered my view of religion and culture and has left me with both the understanding and the tools to go beyond limitations to the joy of love and all its possibilities." Mind-Opening

What a good writer, so engaging even when dealing with scientific and metaphysically esoteric ideas. Chapter on how St. Paul derailed Jesus's message in favor of a rule-bound dogma is worth the admission price! Best description of what went wrong when a transcendent spiritual message gets interpreted and promoted by a lesser soul. Rest of book is also fascinating in the way it looks at how our enculturation stops our mental and spiritual growth potential, and how we can use this realization to get it back.

For the lay person this gives a great overview of how the brain developed. And the surprise is that the heart also has a brain - the seat of our emotions as the ancient mystics understood long before we did and the center of our energy field. Together with Bruce Lipton's "Biology of Belief" and explorations into the development of cells, there is scientific knowledge to support basic beliefs about the Universe itself and our place in it. Life comes from life. It can come no other way. If you have a religious ideology, then "as above, so below". It's the same thing. If we, composed of multiple trillions of cells that managed to cooperate, have consciousness, so too does the far greater Universe. We are but tiny particles within it. Material scientists may discover how the Universe works, but they don't know Who the Universe is.

Helping us to see ourselves
By William Waterway
On page 137, Pearce writes, "Keeping their natural world out of reach of children seems to be our national passion. In fact, greater numbers of children are brought up in the artificial world of cement, asphalt, plastics, and the virtual reality of television, while fewer each year experience a world of nature and the unfolding of organic life."

Then, in the Epilogue, on page 259 we read, "We have ignored for half a century or more the studies that show some 95 perecent of all a child's learning or "structures of knowledge" form automatically in direct response to interactions with the environment, while only about 5 percent form as a result of our verbal teaching or intellectual instruction."

Pearce further tells us how there are certain international organizations with members who intentionally raise their children in "living" environments. These children are said to possess unusual intelligence and sometimes clairvoyant-like abilities. One example on page 250 sites a mother who diliberately gave birth to her son in the ocean of the Bahamas,..."about as far from a hospital you can get."

As the author of "The Holy Order of Water", I firmly believe that Pearce is doing his best to spiritually guide us toward fostering a new generation of children to help save humanity. With the way things are today, I think this concept has much merit.
