Good for stories, but bad if researching folklore.

This is a revised version.The originals, especially Basile's versions are sometimes incredibly dark, so I get why they edited out certain stories or changed others, but I'm just not a big fan of censorship or revisionist nonsense. Some really dark stuff has been left in other stuff removed, how they chose what to keep and what to leave, who knows? It just seems to me that newer, friendlier versions of all these stories are so widely available, why did they have to mess with the old versions as well.
Edit: Even the names of some of the stories have been changed, the Enchanted Doe, for example is originally the Charmed Hind. There's a free ebook on books.google.com if you search pentamerone, it'll come up as Il Pentamerone -Volume 1 and has a blue cover, it has stories which don't even seem to be in this one, but I haven't yet found volume two in English. This version has some of volume two's stories, but I'm guessing there are many more to volume two as well.
That's just how it is though with old collections of stories, it's almost impossible to find a complete edition of The Book of the Thousand Nights and a Night, the most complete English version of One Thousand and One Nights (Arabian nights), and sometimes it's hard to tell that you're even missing anything, because the cut down versions are often huge. Then you see the originals, and you realize how many stories have been removed or altered.
This is a free ebook though, so you can't really complain. Good for stories, but bad if researching folklore.

Adapted version?

I believe this is a censored version of the original. Quite disappointing but the originals are fairly dark and twisted. Oh well.

Twisted, dark, and a very good read

I've always been more interested in the original fairy tales than the newer diluted ones. This book does not disappoint in that.
